RekordBox is the premier, standard program for DJ’s of all levels, in all clubs, and with most CDJ’s. It is vital to know the in’s and out’s of the program so you come to your gig prepared and professional!
Working with RekordBox’s audio processing algorithm allows you to edit, manipulate, and perfect your songs so they sync seamlessly. When importing audio into RekordBox, sometimes the algorithm doesn’t process the tune 100% accurately – maybe the song was recorded acoustically and is not precisely aligned compared to a dance track, or maybe – like all technology – RekordBox does not accurately assess your music. Whatever it is, there can be several things that throw off the audio processing algorithm. Here are ANGVIS’ top 5 RekordBox hacks that are guaranteed to set you up for success!
- To align the beat grid on a song, go to the “Grid Edit” options, and manually adjust the downbeat of the song using the white and red marker to set it.
- Sometimes you are just stuck searching for the perfect song to transition to – all the other tunes are out of key. Underneath “Key Sync”, you can alter the key of the song. When the key highlights blue, RekordBox is telling you that it is in a matching key to your song you are mixing out of. Remember, this is not a permanent switch of key, so be sure to use your DAW to permanently export the song in the key needed.
- If the beats are not lined up perfectly, adjust the BPM of your tune by going to your “Grid Edit” options and manually setting the new BPM. Once you have figured out the proper BPM, make sure to also resetit in your music library so it is a permanent change.
- On the top left of RekordBox, you are given options to change modes. Many people spend hours wondering how to edit their tracks and can’t find the “Grid Edit” options! Make sure you are set in Performance Mode, where a variety of edit options will open!
- To the right of these options, you have the ability to change your deck setup, from 2 decks, to 4 decks. This allows you to practice doubling for drum n bass and techno, or chopping up for dubstep artists.
