Henri Victory and Impai Team Up For High-Powered DNB Release “Muto”

Henri Victory – a Drum and Bass superpower, and Impai – a Left-Field Bass genius: put these two together and you’ll unlock some astonishing collaborative power. With their distinguishable dark, bass-heavy tastes, they most recently released “Muto”, a sinister, heavy-hitting collaboration on ANGVIS. We caught up with them to hear more about this tune, and find out what’s in store for these Amsterdam-based artists this coming year!

What is the meaning and inspiration behind this song?

Impai: To be honest, we just like to go mental on Drum and Bass and wanted to create something fresh and crazy! Especially since it is the second track we’ve ever made together and we’ve gotten the hang of how to work with each other a bit!

Henri Victory: As for the actual meaning of the name, Muto kicks off as Gojira’s main antagonist, keeping the storyline rolling from my previous release on Angvis. We’ve got two kinds of Muto in the mix, and that’s why we chose this name. It just feels right for this track, especially in the break where things get seriously intense and fierce. It’s like a fight between the two creatures Gojira and Muto.

How was the collaboration process, any challenges? What did you learn from each other coming from different musical backgrounds and specialties?

Impai: The song started out with Henri showing me a song saying, “It’s cool but it misses the crazy factor.” So he sent me the stems, and I re-arranged the drop and resampled the living hell out of the sounds already in there to create some cool movement and ultimately the final flow of the drop. But to be completely honest, it sounded like shit in the process since all the sounds were stretched out and artifacted the hell out of. Then I sent everything back to Henri. Him being the crazy sound design wizard that he is, he basically resynthesized all the sounds and layered them on top to create the movement but this time with all the power it needed! So basically we reprocessed the already reprocessed sound of the original idea.

This song has incredible sound design! For our curious producers, what was your process?

To add to the previous question, a lot of warping, reversing, stretching, and effects to create cool ideas, and then layering it with sound design mostly coming out of Serum!

And finally, what can we expect from each of you this upcoming year?

Impai: In the coming months, i’ll start releasing tracks that really set the tone of what the project will sound like. These tracks will mostly head in the Left-Field Bass and Trap-inspired direction, but of course, with an Impai twist. Together with that, I am launching a new project! It crosses the boundaries between old-school Hip-Hop, Left-Field Bass and Dubstep with an amazing artist and friend of mine – the details will be out soon. Finally, I am organizing a couple of sick bass events this coming year in Amsterdam! Feel free to hit me up on Instagram for more info.

Henri Victory: In 2024, many releases and remixes are expected. I noticed that I received so many positive reactions after releasing “Gojira” and “L’enfer Bootleg”, and I definitely want to expand on that in 2024. And don’t forget that sick collaborations are also expected, with nomi, a sequel with Impai, a single featuring Fabienne Julie, and many other artists. Finally, there are also sick performances on my schedule, and I really can’t wait!

With their strongly developed bass tastes, there’s no doubt you can expect some killer new releases and shows from Henri Victory and Impai.
